From Cradle to Classroom:

Dunstan’s Baby Language Theory and Implications for Educators.

Research by Australia’s Priscilla Dunstan has resulted in original and noteworthy discoveries which appear to redraw the theoretical boundaries of first language acquisition. Dunstan’s contention, that babies possess a language of their own from birth is neither thinking inside the box, nor outside, but imagining a new box. Simply stated, her discovery of a baby language necessitates a return to the theoretical (and practical) drawing board. This interactive workshop is for teachers of all ages and levels and will include: (1) An introduction to Dunstan and her discovery of baby language. (2) How to identify, speak, and understand Baby. (3) Outcomes and implications for would-be caregivers. (4) Finally, how Dunstan’s discovery correlates current first and second language learning theoretical frameworks.
Attendees will engage in group work activities, one-on-one language pronunciation practice - with whole class (group choral) repetitions – which will make input more comprehensible and verifiable, and see video clips to better understand the theory

Biography

With 17-years teaching experience, Dwight Lubiniecki has tutored undergraduates in the US; taught high school curriculum to teenagers and adults in Canada; lectured Korean graduate students on developing social trends and events, and instructed pedagogy development workshops for Korean teachers-of-English in Korea. He worked as a Literacy Instructional Specialist/Coach (teaching American teachers) for the NYC Department of Education from 2001 to 2008. From 2008 to 2010, he lectured graduate students on SLA and academic writing at Sookmyung Women's University. Mr. Lubiniecki currently divides his time as a lecturer at Yonsei University, and a private tutor at the Seoul Foreign School.
